Welcome, welcome, welcome!
I love classic cocktails. From reading to researching to taste testing, I’ve spent a lot of time with this contemporary return to classic drinks and the ever-evolving craft cocktail revolution. I love a really good, balanced, and beautifully crafted cocktail.
When I began this site, the problem I saw was that finding classically crafted cocktails outside major metropolitan cocktail centers – and outside my home bar – was a challenge. So I took matters into my own hands. Like a contemporary Johnny Applejack, I began to spread classically crafted cocktails throughout the countryside by planting seeds using the various elements of this website.
But then something very strange happened.
I happened to be on vacation in some of our nation’s hinterlands and lo and behold, there they were – on cocktail menus in the remotest places – classically crafted cocktails!
Holy moly! My work was done!
First, let’s get something straight: I’ve had very little to do with this surprising spread of classically influenced cocktails. The fact is, they are spreading of their own accord. Sometimes they are quite well executed and sometimes they are just plain executed…
I can help with that.
Fine bars everywhere are putting classically influenced cocktails on their bar menus…
Oh, wait … what’s that?
I can help with that, too.
Here are the ways I can help out:
1. With my Five Archetypes of Classic Mixology and ingredients from a reasonably stocked bar, any moderately trained barkeep or home mixologist can whip up a tasty libation or two without resorting to hard-to-find ingredients, oddball homemade concoctions, or specialized equipment.
2. Armed with only these simple archetypes, I have been conducting routine visits to local establishments where I create Guerrilla Cocktails using only the resources immediately available. I’ll continue to do so, but my Guerrilla Cocktail blog will take on another dimension as cocktail critic. If you’re gonna put‘em on yer menu, then get it right!
3. To help you get it right, I’m offering my research along with my kitchen to you at your house, your restaurant, your bar, or your little getaway in the Swiss Alps. Check out KISSing Classically Crafted Cocktails.
4. The most recent wrinkle to my repertoire is as Cocktail Kibitzer – when all you’re looking for is an opinion, a few thoughts, a suggestion or two. Need to get on board with offering classically crafted cocktails? Got an oddball bottle of something you have no idea what to do with? Need to spruce up your cocktail menu? Shoot me an email and I’ll kibitz with the best of ‘em!
